Join us on November 9, 2014 9:00 am for the second annual Valenzano Winery 5K race through the vineyards.  Starting line is just outside the Winemaker’s Ballroom, follow a path through our new vineyard of Ives grapes, around the solar panels that power 100% of our energy usage, round the property’s oldest vines of Cynthiana and exit the farm onto the scenic Forked Neck Road.  As you race past equestrian fields and panoramic farms you will turn into the Valenzano family’s oldest vineyards – the site where our winery was established 17 years past.  As you run through these vines you will see the maturity and roughness of 20+ year old vine; past this spectacular view and back through the road with the ‘forked neck’ and enter back to our new facility.  From here you will run through our back fields where the vineyards turn into a trail and the trail turns into a path through a scenic lake nestled in the heart of Wharton State Forest.  As you exit the forest you enter the finish line and you will have completed our second 5K!  Event Organized by Good Day For A Run

In 2009 the members of Grass Roots Jeep Club were trying to find a way to bring the Jeep enthusiasts from the different clubs in New Jersey together. At the time our club meetings were held at Amalthea Cellars a small winery in Atco N.J. We decided to try to host a show.  Jeeps in the Vineyard was born.

After months of hard work we ended up with 68 Jeeps and 12 sponsors.   We out grew the winery that first year.  The 2nd Annual JITV was moved to Valenzano Winery in Shamong N.J.  And grew to just under 100 Jeeps from 3 states and 18 sponsors.  The 3rd Annual JITV grew even more with over 150 Jeeps and 23 sponsors.  In 2012 the 4th Annual JITV was a huge success with Jeeps from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. With 30 sponsors.

Entertainment – Do we have quality entertainers, musicians and performers that are appropriate for the setting? Comfort - I don’t mind crowds at all, but I really dislike ‘being crowded’.  My wife will attest to this.  When we layout WineFest I always picture myself as the customer and try to ensure that I would be comfortable in the setting.   If not, than we change things up and try to make improvements. Vendors – Are our vendors up to the task?  Can the restaurants dish out the food without long lines, are crafters selling unique products, Whats is there for the kids?  If we aren’t excited by what our vendors are offering, we go out and seek new vendors who are exciting. Safety – Are we ensuring that our customers are visiting a safe and secure environment?  Everything we do has this in mind, in addition to the professionals we hire to provide security and extra safety, we are confident that we have done our job well. Fun Factor –  Why would I shell out $15 or $20 to spend my afternoon at a farm in Shamong?  That’s the big question – isn’t it?  So the answer isn’t as simply as most think.  For the ticket price you really don’t get much, right?  A decent wine glass and a wrist band that says your over or under age.  Yes, you get to sample over a hundred different wines from our favorite NJ wineries – but you can drive the wine trail any weekend and tour south Jersey wineries.  Yes, we have  4 stages of music but you could just turn on your iPad for good tunes. Yes, we now have a side show act of aerialist and sword fighting, but that’s what YouTube is for right?  Good food, check,,, but its Jersey, there is good food everywhere.  A ton of crafters of course, but who pays to go to a craft show???
So, again we ask ourselves, why do so many people come to WineFest?  No silly, its not because of the free pony rides — IT’S THE ‘FUN FACTOR’ .  Yes, WineFest has a factor of ‘fun’ that has been grown over the past decade.  We are not sure exactly what this is, or how we caught ‘Fun Factor’ virus, or even how its measured, but we are certain that we have attained it.  WineFest is just a fun place to be the 3rd weekend of September, and not many people can dispute that.  Thousands of people over the past 13 years agree which is why you need to mark your calendar now for Burlington County’s most anticipated wine and music event.

South Jersey’s most anticipated fireworks display has been rescheduled for Friday, September 19th.  Tickets will be available for purchase at the gate the day of the event.  We will not be selling advanced tickets.

So since our July 3rd event was cancelled due to deadly tornadoes and devastating tsunamis that were predicted, it looks like we  have finally received permitting to allow us to reschedule our fireworks festival.  WineFest Weekend doesn’t wear our staff down enough so we decided to add an extra day just to make it a ‘really’ long weekend.

Friday, September 19th:  Fireworks Festival 5-9pm  (remember that sunset is at 7:02 pm)  We will be launching the fireworks sometime after sunset.
Tickets:  Available at the gate.  Advanced tickets are no longer for sale.
Saturday, September 20th:  WineFest 2014 Noon-5pm
Sunday, September 21th:  WineFest 2014 Noon-5pm
Tickets:  Advanced tickets still available online or by visiting the winery.   Remember that tickets to WineFest are NOT valid for entrance to the Fireworks Festival.

2014 Indy International wine awards announced

West Lafayette, IN – Over 2,200 wines traveled to West Lafayette for one of the nation’s largest wine competitions, the Indy International Wine Competition, July 30 through August 1, 2014 at Purdue University.

Wines from 40 states and 11 countries as far away as France, Australia, Spain and Greece were judged on appearance, aroma, taste, and aftertaste by 45 international judges.

The Wine of the Year award was given to Klinker Brick Winery, Lodi, CA, for their 2012 Old Ghost Zinfandel, besting over 2,200 other wines to be named the best wine of the entire competition.  Red Wine of the Year honors was given to Ghost Pines Winery, Healdsburg, CA for their 2012 Merlot. White Wine of the Year honors was awarded to Saint Croix Vineyards of Stillwater, MN for their 2013 Vignoles. Rosé Wine of the Year was awarded to Carlos Creek Winery of Alexandria, MN for their 2013 Frontenac Rosé.

Purple Toad Winery of Paducah, KY won Fruit Wine of the Year for their Lauren’s Blackberry wine.

Dr. Konstantin Frank of Hammondsport, NY was awarded the Winery of the Year Trophy. The trophy honors the Best International Brand of the entire competition.

Bill Gulvin of Nissley Vineyards, Bainbridge, PA state won the Winemaker of the Year Trophy, honoring the vintner who wins the most gold medals by brand at the competition.

Valenzano Winery of Shamong entered this year’s Indy International for the first time and was awarded a Double Gold medal for their Shamong Red Reserve in the ‘Red American Blend’ Category.

The Indy International Wine Competition has been organized by the Purdue Wine Grape Team since 1992, and for the past eight years under the leadership of Professor of Enology Christian Butzke. “The more than two thousand wines entered in the 23rd INDY are a true reflection of the amazingly diverse offerings that the global wine market provides to American wine lovers who now consume more wine than any other nation in the world.  Our 45 professional wine judges represent the general public’s taste in wine, and their recommendations provide great guidance among the dizzying array of choices in the grocery store, online wine shop, or restaurant”, said Dr. Butzke.

New awards this year included Wine Packaging Design of the Year and Wine Label Design of the Year.  They were won by Illinois Sparkling Wine Company of North Utica, IL and Cades Cove Cellars of Townsend, TN, respectively.
